February 20, 2024

Versogen, a global leader in anion exchange membrane (AEM) technologies, is paving the way for a cleaner, more sustainable future. With the recent achievement of PiperION® membrane production capacity of 1 gigawatt of AEM electrolyzers per year, Versogen is at the forefront of green hydrogen innovation.

Watch the video below to learn more about Versogen and its cutting-edge technology, enabling the path to low-cost green hydrogen at scale.

Video Transcript

Narrator 00:08: Welcome to the forefront of innovation with Versogen, where cutting-edge technology meets sustainable solutions.

Jim Prendergast, Director of Sales and Business Development 00:14: Hi, I’m Jim Prendergast, I’m the director of sales and business development for Versogen. We have products that make both membranes, piperidinium-based membranes with our PiperION brand, and we also make electrolyzers for this cause. So together, we make products that will allow hydrogen to be made so that we can run fuels and we can run chemical processes that decarbonize the world and allow us to manage climate change better.

Narrator 00:19: In a world striving for a cleaner, more efficient energy, Versogen leads the way with its revolutionary membranes, unlocking a new era of possibilities. At the heart of Versogen’s mission is our state-of-the-art membrane technology. What sets us apart? Versogen membranes are engineered to perfection, enabling breakthroughs in energy production and environmental conservation.

Yushan Yan, Ph.D., CEO and Co-Founder 01:10: One of the products of Versogen is AEM membranes. This membranes are designed to conduct hydroxide instead of protons. Hydroxide is a negatively charged ion, and this membrane can be used in an electrolyzer stack that can take water in, electricity in, and produce hydrogen. And, the benefit of using AEM membrane is we can eliminate many expensive components out of the electrolyzer stack. For example, we don’t need iridium which is a very expensive, very rare metal. We don’t need titanium, another very expensive metal. By eliminating these very expensive components, we can reduce the stack cost, and this lower cost can be translated into a lower cost for hydrogen

Narrator 02:27: Versogen is dedicated to creating membranes that redefine efficiency and sustainability. In the energy sector, Versogen’s membranes are a game changer by harnessing the power of advanced materials and design, our membranes significantly enhance the performance of fuel cells and energy storage systems.

Brian Setzler, Ph.D., Senior Chemical Engineer and Co-Founder 02:47: It’s very good at transporting anions, so it can be used as the core of an electrochemical device that operates in alkaline conditions. This can be an electrolyzer fuel cell, electrochemical carbon capture, several different electrodialysis, and other separations processes. There are many applications. This membrane takes up a lot of water, and it allows the negatively charged ions, the hydroxyl anion of that, that you have in that water to move through very easily. So this is an essential part of an electrochemical device.

Narrator 03:26: This translates to longer-lasting, more efficient energy solutions, but don’t just take our word for it. Industry leaders across the globe have embraced Versogen’s membranes for their reliability and unparalleled performance.

Sharon Perl, Ph.D., MBA, VP of Membrane Production 03:39: The company is the leading company in the AEM industry. Our process has quality control in each step. We verify the specs and the quality, and we test each process cue points of quality control. We also recycle everything we can during the process and reduce the cost of the waste. We think about green hydrogen, which means that there’s green electricity, but we also want to be a green company, reducing waste at a high yield. Recycling is as important, so we do it.

Narrator 04:26: Our clients consistently report increased energy output, reduced maintenance costs, and an overall positive impact on their operations. Join us at Versogen as we pave the way for a cleaner, more sustainable future. Whether you’re in the energy industry, water treatment, or
beyond, our membranes are the key to unlocking unparalleled efficiency and environmental responsibility. Versogen is redefining possibilities, one membrane at a time. Contact us today and be a part of the evolution towards a greener, more sustainable tomorrow.
