We have products that make both membranes, piperidinium-based membranes with our PiperION brand, and we also make electrolyzers for this cause. So together, we make products that will allow hydrogen to be made so that we can run fuels and we can run chemical processes that decarbonize the world and allow us to manage climate change better.

Yushan Yan, Ph.D., CEO and Co-Founder 01:10: One of the products of Versogen is AEM membranes. This membranes are designed to conduct hydroxide instead of protons. Hydroxide is a negatively charged ion, and this membrane can be used in an electrolyzer stack that can take water in, electricity in, and produce hydrogen. And, the benefit of using AEM membrane is we can eliminate many expensive components out of the electrolyzer stack. For example, we don’t need iridium which is a very expensive, very rare metal. We don’t need titanium, another very expensive metal. By eliminating these very expensive components, we can reduce the stack cost, and this lower cost can be translated into a lower cost for hydrogen

Brian Setzler, Ph.D., Senior Chemical Engineer and Co-Founder 02:47: It’s very good at transporting anions, so it can be used as the core of an electrochemical device that operates in alkaline conditions. This can be an electrolyzer fuel cell, electrochemical carbon capture, several different electrodialysis, and other separations processes. There are many applications. This membrane takes up a lot of water, and it allows the negatively charged ions, the hydroxyl anion of that, that you have in that water to move through very easily. So this is an essential part of an electrochemical device.
